Turn the Tub Around - "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Infomercial

My wife and I came across this "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" infomercial on Dish Network channel 125. The video plays over and over continuously. The video is funny, but my wife are I are disappointed to be paying Dish Network for channels featuring infomercials about butter. Overall, we feel we should be getting more high-quality channels for our money.

I think the following comment sums up this video nicely. MissMousy60 on YouTube says, "This is very bizarre. An infomercial for a tub of butter."

First of all, how do you define "high-quality channels"? Do you define them the same way as you do, say, premium channels? That is, channels like HBO, Cinemax and Showtime? If not, then how? Cable television and Dish Network and DirecTV all have only two types of channels: premium (such as the aforementioned and others) and the regular channels. Both need some source of revenue beyond your monthly service fee so commercials are a necessary evil.

Second, this is not an infomercial. It's an extended version which the normal commercials can be clipped from. I've seen this exact same commercial in normal length and it's not nearly as long. Infomercials are typically 5 minutes or more in length. I think this extended commercial was just an opporunity for Megan Mullaly to show off her singing talents like she did in 'Fame'.

Thanks for your comments and clearing up he issue that the video is not an infomercial. I think most consumers would call this an infomercial though.

I find it to be an amusing video the more I think about it. Also, good or bad, the video got my attention. The marketers behind "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" might be on to something here. It is a catchy tune. I'll give them that!
